MBA/MCS Admissions
Application Process
To apply for the MBA/MCS concurrent degree program, you only need to submit a single application through the Haas MBA application portal. Interested applicants should select the MBA/MCS option when completing their Haas MBA application. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at climatesolutions@berkeley.edu.
If you want to apply for the MCS degree program only, you need to submit your application here.
Deadlines
Deadlines will follow the Haas Full Time MBA application deadlines:
- Round 1: September 12, 2024
- Round 2: January 9, 2025
- Round 3: April 3, 2025
Application Requirements – Degree/GPA
An undergraduate degree (bachelor’s or equivalent) at an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 scale is required.
Application Requirements – Standardized Exams
The GMAT or GRE is required. The GMAT or GRE must be taken on or before the designated application deadline.
Application Requirements – TOEFL/IELTS Score
TOEFL/IELTS score is required for:
- Individuals who received college degrees from a country in which the official language is not English, regardless of the language of instruction; and
- U.S. citizens and permanent residents who received their undergraduate degrees from a country in which the official language is not English.
The TOEFL must be taken on or before the designated application deadline.
Cost Estimate
When you enroll in the MBA/MCS concurrent degree program, the total estimated cost will be:
- $199,082.19 (California resident) and
- $218,289.70 (non-resident)*
You can compare this to the cost of attending both programs (MBA and MCS) separately. Using the tuition and fees rate from 2023-2024, if the two degrees were obtained sequentially, the total cost would be between $221,683.50 and $246,173.50:
- MBA – $164,291 (average of CA resident and non-resident fees)
- MCS – $69,489
*fee rates for 2025-2026 may change
Some or all instruction for all or part of the Academic Year may be delivered remotely. Tuition and fees have been set regardless of the method of instruction and will not be refunded in the event instruction occurs remotely for any part of the Academic Year. Figures for tuition and fees represent currently approved or proposed amounts and may not be final. Actual tuition and fees are subject to change by the University of California as determined to be necessary or appropriate. Final approved tuition and fee levels may differ from the amounts presented.

Letters of Recommendation
We require two letters of recommendation and prefer that both letters come from current or former employers, recognizing that some applicants may not have the ability to fulfill this requirement. Please select individuals with whom you’ve had substantial professional interaction, such as a major client or your supervisor. The formal title or position of these individuals is not crucial. What matters most is how closely they have worked with you and their ability to attest to your contributions as an employee, your professional accomplishments, and your personal qualities and interpersonal skills within an organizational setting.
How will the Haas School of Business and Rausser College decide on my admission?
Applicants to the MBA/MCS will be considered for admission to both MBA and MBA/MCS programs. Those who want to be considered for MCS only option needs to submit their application to MCS through the UC Berkeley Graduate Division Application Website.
Nondiscrimination Policy Statement
In accordance with federal and state law and university policy, the University of California prohibits discrimination, including harassment, on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer-related or genetic characteristics), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or status as a covered veteran (special disabled veteran, Vietnam-era veteran or any other veteran who served on active duty during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized). This nondiscrimination policy covers admission, access, and treatment in University programs and activities.
Curriculum
The students in the Concurrent Degree Program with MCS and MBA (MBA/MCS) will begin the first year in the Master of Climate Solutions Colloquium, which is a year-long series of speakers, outings, and events while they are enrolled in the MBA core. The Colloquium, which features guest speakers including leaders in sustainable business, as well as site visits to businesses and public agencies, is designed to create connections between the MBA core materials and climate topics during the first year.
In their second year, MBA/MCS students will fully immerse themselves in the MCS program, together with MCS standalone students, creating a strong cohort. They will take both business and climate/sustainability courses, and a project-based capstone course.
The capstone and the colloquium, which are required for both standalone MCS and MBA/MCS students, are explicitly designed to tie together content, themes, and skills that cut across business and climate/sustainability and to ensure practical application of core ideas and to facilitate contact between students and practitioners. The capstone projects will address a practical climate-related challenge or opportunity faced by a real organization, including private businesses. This experience will leverage the core climate skills and knowledge taught in the MCS, as well as the leadership and business skills emphasized in the MBA, to engage students with applying that to generate a solution to a real climate challenge.
MBA/MCS students will be positioned to take advantage of the opportunities in both Rausser College and Haas School of Business for a full five semesters. Unlike the MBA only peers, the MBA/MCS students get to have two summers of internship and other experiences.
